The College of Engineering at Al Ain University – Abu Dhabi Campus launched an initiative titled "Arabic Language and Artificial Intelligence," which aims to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into the Arabic language, reflecting the intersection of engineering with linguistic and cultural heritage.
This student initiative affirms the university's commitment to its cultural and intellectual role and its support for the national vision, which prioritizes reading as a pillar for building a knowledge-based society and promoting sustainable development. Dr. Majdi Sawalha also delivered a lecture on the uses of artificial intelligence in serving the Arabic language and the Holy Quran, highlighting advanced linguistic research in the fields of morphological and phonetic processing, and the construction of annotated Arabic corpora.
The initiative included a presentation by student Ahmed Samir about the Arabic Language and Artificial Intelligence Club, launched in conjunction with the initiative. He reviewed the club's vision, projects, and goals. The club was established as a platform to encourage students to explore the Arabic language as a system that can be modelled and developed using modern tools. This strengthens their connection to cultural identity and provides them with practical opportunities to contribute to future projects that combine heritage and technology. The event witnessed great interaction from students and faculty, and sparked widespread enthusiasm for the prospects of research and innovation in the field of artificial intelligence and language.
