White Cane Day Event Promotes Awareness of Visual Impairment Issues

A White Cane Day event was organized at the Al Ain campus in cooperation with the Special Education Program, as part of efforts to raise community awareness of visual impairment issues.

The event hosted Dr. Abdullah Al Hammami and Mr. Omar Fayez, both persons with visual disabilities, from the Hemam Center for Inclusive Education Services / Mohammed bin Khalid. Dr. Al Hammami delivered an inspiring lecture in which he shared his life journey, highlighting the key challenges and difficulties he faced as a person with visual impairment, and how he was able to overcome them through determination and perseverance.

Mr. Omar Fayez also participated by reciting a moving poem that was well received by the audience. In addition, students contributed through organizing an awareness exhibition showcasing a range of tools used by individuals with visual impairments, along with several activities aimed at promoting social awareness and reinforcing concepts of inclusion.

The event was attended by a number of university students and members of the local community, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to supporting social inclusion and spreading the values of tolerance and human solidarity.
