Al Ain University Hosts First Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Visit from Linnaeus University, Sweden

Al Ain University continued to strengthen its international academic partnerships by hosting the first official visit within the Erasmus+ International Mobility Program (ICM) from Linnaeus University of Sweden, in a step that reflects the university’s commitment to developing international academic cooperation, enhancing academic excellence, exchanging knowledge, and supporting joint scientific research initiatives between the two institutions.
Linnaeus University of Sweden was represented by Dr. Nadeem Abbas, who visited the Al Ain University campuses in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain during the period from 19 to 22 May 2026. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Khabib Alam, Erasmus+ Project Coordinator at the Abu Dhabi Campus, and Dr. Haroun Mahmoud, Project Coordinator at the Al Ain Campus. The visit witnessed the implementation of a group of academic, research and cooperative activities that reflected the shared vision of the two institutions in supporting innovation and international academic openness.
The visit focused on enhancing academic cooperation through developing curricula and improving academic programs, as meetings were held with faculty members and leaders of the software engineering program to discuss reviewing study plans and aligning academic programs with international standards and modern labor market requirements, in addition to discussing opportunities to develop joint and elective courses between the two universities.
The visit also included a number of cognitive activities aimed at exchanging experiences and best educational practices, the most notable of which was a joint teaching session on “Formal Specification of Quality Requirements,” which provided students with the opportunity to learn about international academic experiences and contributed to enriching their educational experience, in addition to a group of classroom activities that strengthened cooperation between faculty members at the two universities.
On the research side, the two parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in joint research projects, joint academic supervision, and participation in international conferences and forums specialized in software engineering, in addition to discussing opportunities to apply for research funding projects and organizing international academic workshops and events that support research excellence and enhance the global presence of the two institutions.
The visit also provided valuable opportunities for Al Ain University students to interact with international expertise in the fields of software engineering and artificial intelligence, by attending seminars that addressed the latest developments in software engineering supported by artificial intelligence, modern research challenges, and the importance of international academic cooperation in preparing cadres capable of competing globally.
The visit stressed the importance of cooperation in supporting a few strategic areas, including the development of joint curricula, the mobility of students and faculty members within the Erasmus+ program, joint academic teaching and supervision, enhancing cooperation with the industrial sector, and building long-term sustainable institutional partnerships.
This initiative is consistent with Al Ain University’s vision to promote academic internationalization, improve the quality of education, and prepare graduates capable of competing in the global knowledge economy. Through international programs such as Erasmus+, the university continues to expand its network of global academic partnerships and provide quality opportunities for its students and faculty.
At the conclusion of the visit, Al Ain University expressed its sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Nadeem Abbas for his valuable contributions during the visit, and to all faculty members and academic leaders who participated in the various meetings and activities.
