The Deanship of Student Affairs at Al Ain University – Abu Dhabi Campus organized a training course entitled "Advanced First Aid" as part of its commitment to enhancing students' health awareness and developing their skills in dealing with emergencies and various injuries. The course provided practical and applied training aimed at improving participants' preparedness to respond appropriately in critical situations.
The course covered several essential first aid topics. Participants were trained to identify different types of injuries and how to manage them according to established principles and procedures. They also learned proper bandaging techniques and how to provide initial care to the injured, which helps prevent further injury until the arrival of emergency medical services.
The course also included practical training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The steps of CPR were reviewed in detail and applied practically using specialized training equipment and tools. This training aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills to deal with cardiac and respiratory arrest and increase the chances of saving lives in emergency situations. The course addressed the importance of psychological support for the injured and their families during accidents and emergencies. It emphasized the paramedic's role in reassuring the injured and providing appropriate psychological support, which helps alleviate the stress and fear associated with accidents and enhances the injured person's response to treatment and first aid.
The course also highlighted the proper conduct at accident sites, including the necessity of keeping onlookers away and not obstructing the work of ambulance and rescue teams. Furthermore, it raised awareness about the dangers of photographing the injured or sharing their images on social media, given the negative impact this has on the privacy and feelings of the injured and their families.
At the end of the course, participants acquired advanced practical knowledge and skills in first aid, enhancing their ability to handle injuries and emergencies efficiently and responsibly, and contributing to spreading a culture of safety and community awareness.
