Biography

In 2019, I joined the College of Communication and Media, having previously worked at Libyan universities such as Tripoli University, Azzaytuna University, Misurata University, before I moved to the UK and worked in De Montford University, and University of Leicester where I completed my PhD (2012). Across my teaching and academic career, I have taught on a variety of full / part-time (undergraduate, postgraduate) level. I have also contributed to the expansion and development of media curriulum and syllabus, especially in public relations and media field.

Research Interests

In terms of research,  I have recently conducted, individually and collaboratively, research on an international level including participating in national and international conferences and festivals. I have published several peer-reviewed journal articles, books and book chapters in the field of Media and Communications Studies, the InternetPublic Relations, New MediaSocial Media. Some of my work include research on news consumption including BBC News Channel, CNN TV news, Al Arabiya TV news and Al-Jazeera TV news. Therefore, my research profile and publications are complemented by an interest in studying young adults’ consumption of news, which may attract increased academic and broader interest in the medium term. I have reviewed journal articles and books in the above fields for various publishers.

Teaching Courses

TEACHING:

I have sound teaching experience in Media and Communication Studies and PR. Academic considerations, learner outcomes and the student experience are important to this role, as is effective communication and presentation. Assessment is also part of my role and alongside the UG/PG programme responsibilities in this area; I have supervised several projects and dissertations.

 

IT SKILLS:

I have extensive knowledge of MO packages, with confident using technology for research, administrative and teaching purposes. I am competent in SPSS, EndNotes, Refworks and Mendeley software. In teaching, I use multi-media and smart devices as part of my delivery; I also administer student marks and messages via the new communication apps and the university’s VLP.
