AAU ‘In Balance’ at the World Family Summit +7

AAU ‘In Balance’ at the World Family Summit +7The 7th three- day World Family Summit +7 was held in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The Summit was organized under the patronage of H. H. Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the General Women’s Union and Supreme Chairperson of the Council for Motherhood and Childhood.

The Summit’s theme was “Balanced Families: Working towards Sustainable Development through making decent work and social protection a global reality for all family members.” The global economic and financial crisis had an extensive impact on families all over the world that resulted in a significant increase in the number of families vulnerable to poverty.

In light of this, the event tackled the increase of productive capacity, employment and better work opportunities to try and eradicate poverty in the context of inclusive, sustainable and equitable economic growth at all levels to try and achieve the primary Millennium Development Goal.

AAU students and staff were involved in interesting and lively discussions on the most effective ways to promote the peaceful settlement of disputes at the family level, including family mediation and the need to abolish domestic and sexual violence, in order to support and strengthen the international peace agenda.

Attendees agreed the need for balanced and close-knit families with solidarity between their members in an atmosphere of love, compassion, tolerance, openness to others and respect for cultural and religious diversity.
