AAU College of Engineering and Information Technology and UAE Telecommunication Regulatory Authority Hold Workshop on Cyber Security

As part of its effort to spread the cyber security culture and improve information security awareness, the College of Engineering and Information Technology at AAU, in collaboration with the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, organized a workshop in Al Ain Campus.
The Computer Emergency Response Team represented by Engineer Khalifa Al Shamsi, delivered a seminar on the importance and measures of protecting electronic devices from insecure use and third party applications. Mr. Khalifa reminded the students of the threat of being subject to a “hack of mind” and how to avoid social engineering by presenting and discussing many concrete examples.
In the second part of the workshop, Mr. Khalifa emphasized the importance of setting and keeping passwords, good practices for electronic information security, and suggested protection software to download.
Dr. Hassan Wahbeh, the Dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology, mentioned that such workshops are an integral part of the college’s policies since they raise awareness among the students on how to avoid the risks posed by the Internet and how to protect personal accounts against hacking.
Further, Mohammad Baharoon, a student at the College of Engineering and Information Technology expressed how much he benefited from the workshop. “I truly learned practical skills and techniques for protection against hacking,” he added.
Another student, Mohammad Alawi, pointed out that the workshop was enlightening in terms of differentiating the various types of viruses and how to protect against them especially Trojans. He also added that the workshop tackled several vital awareness issues relating to cyber social security in addition to how to tell safe websites from those that pose a risk.
