Breast Cancer Awareness Event at Al Ain University

Breast Cancer Awareness Event at Al Ain UniversityThe Deanship of Student Affairs organized an awareness raising lecture on breast diseases.

Dr. Baree’a Othman from the Breast Care Center at Tawam Hospital delivered the lecture in which she shed light on the different types of breast diseases, symptoms, and causes. She clarified the misconception that all breast diseases are cancer and pointed out the difference between malignant and benign diseases.

Dr. Baree’a also highlighted the importance of self-examination and regular checkups, and that early detection is a key factor in successful treatment and avoiding complications. Studies show that if diagnosed early enough, the success rate of malignant diseases’ treatment is quite high.

On her part, Dr. Ibtehal Abu Rezq, Dean of Student Affairs, pointed out that the lecture is part of the health awareness programs adopted by the Deanship of Student Affairs. She reiterated the importance of spreading awareness about Cancer in all its forms due to the dangers it poses to all sectors of the community not only in the UAE, but also worldwide.

A number of women from the local community attended the lecture in addition to AAU students and staff who expressed their gratefulness to AAU for addressing such issues of general interest and great importance.

It is noteworthy that Tawam Hospital had also sent a mobile early detection mammogram unit to AAU campus and offered a free mammogram to women of the local community.
