AAU and Al Ain Municipality Mark World Diabetes Day

In collaboration with Al Ain Municipality – Town Center sector, the AAU College of Pharmacy organized an event marking World Diabetes Day. The event included a medical lecture on the risk factors and hazards of Diabetes followed by a QA session on the best health and nutrition habits as well as the benefits of exercise. The discussion also highlighted the importance of psychological care for the patients in addition to providing nutritional and healthcare advice. The audience also received consultations regarding medication, the 96-hour monitoring blood sugar level, and the insulin pump.
Ms. Khalwa Al Qaisi, Head of the Community Engagement Committee at the College of Pharmacy, delivered an awareness session entitled (Diabetes and its Effects) in which she pointed that our mission is line with the global mission of the World Diabetes Day. That is evident through the invitation to implement the strategies of the prevention of Diabetes and underlining the need for early diagnosis out of concern for those diagnosed with Diabetes or belong to one of the risk groups.
Dr. Khairi Mustafa, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, reiterated the importance of engaging the students in societal events and allowing them to be involved in voluntary work to better identify the needs of the community and how to serve it. This is in line with the AAU’s mission which involves serving the local community and participating in extracurricular activities to enhance the student’s personality and broaden his/her horizon.
During the event, nurses specialized in Diabetes provided tips on the disease, how to prevent, monitor, and live with it while posters and illustrations explained the signs and symptoms of Diabetes and the risk groups. In addition, the audience interacted well with the early detection field clinic and the health care professionals.
Finally, the AAU students gave out awareness brochures and leaflets which they had prepared and designed especially for the event.
