Business Administration in Gold at AAU Chess Championship

Business Administration in Gold at AAU Chess ChampionshipUnder the patronage of Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifah Bin Shakhboot Al Nahyan, the President of the Asian Chess Federation, the Deanship of Student Affairs at Al Ain University organized the AAU Chess Championship in cooperation with Al Ain Culture and Chess Club.

Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifah Bin Shakhboot Al Nahyan lauded the championship describing it as an initiative that deserves to be followed by other countries which would be the start of an Asian University Chess Championship.

He highlighted that integrating chess in university activities and curricula is a priority for the Asian Federation as we hope to include it in university electives due to the special nature of the game being both a sport as well as an educational, mental activity.

The participants in the AAU Chess Championship included faculty members, supervisors, and students from five colleges: Engineering and Information Technology, Pharmacy, Law, Education, and Business Administration.  

The College of Business Administration won the gold medals for group and individual competitions with 12 points, the College of Pharmacy won the silver with 9 points, and the College of Engineering and Information Technology won the bronze medal with 6 points.

In the individual competitions, Dr. Ahmad Abu Samak, College of Business Administration, came first after beating Manaf Issam Manaf, College of Pharmacy. Also, Dr. Ahmad Ebayan, College of Business Administration, beat Gharibah Mohammad, Pharmacy College and won the bronze medal.

Dr. Ibtehal Aburezq, Dean of Student Affairs, oversaw the championship while adjudication was carried out by the international adjudicator Saleh Abazeid, the Head of Institutional Communication at Al Ain Culture and Chess Club.
