The Quality Assurance and Institutional Research Center at Al Ain University organized a workshop on quality assurance at AAU campuses in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Rafik Hijazi, Director of QAIRC, and Dr. Zafar Husain, Deputy Director of QAIRC. This workshop is a translation of the quality standards as set by the Academic Accreditation Commission at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the UAE.
The speakers detailed the proposed Quality Assurance and Institutional Effectiveness model from on which evaluating institutional achievement is based especially evaluating learning outcomes and the outcomes of administrative units at AAU. The workshop focused on presenting the suggested steps to evaluate the learning outcomes for academic programs starting from drafting the program’s mission and goals, going on to specifying learning outcomes, assessment tools, and ending with the analysis of the evaluation results and utilizing them in addressing any shortcomings as well as future planning.
The workshop was attended by faculty members from all colleges in addition to the English Language Center and the General Requirements Unit. Faculty members showed interest and expressed willingness to serve on Learning Outcomes’ Evaluation committees.
