The 4th Annual Environmental Day discuss the Covid-19 Impacts

The College of Business at Al Ain University organized the Fourth Annual Environmental Day under the theme; Environment and COVID-19 Impact, to raise awareness about environmental issues especially during COVID19 pandemic.

The event was held virtually under the supervision of Dr. Mosab Tabash, Dr. Shorouq Eletter, Dr. Tahira Yasmin, and in the presence of Prof. Ghaleb El Refae- AAU President, Dr. Zafar Hussain- Dean of the College of Business, academic and administrative staffs, and students.

The day was enriched by different views from academia, industry, and research regarding the impact of COVID-19 on the environment. Dr. Shorouq Eletter from Al Ain University, spoke about the impact of COVID-19 on the environment in general and for UAE, in specific. From industry, Mr.  Ghulam Ashraf gave an interesting talk about how COVID19 pandemic impacted his industry, positively and negatively. Moreover, Mr. Ibrahim Khan, a researcher from, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, has presented his paper titled as” COVID‑19 pandemic and its positive impacts on environment: an updated review”.

The environmental day also witnessed a competition between students for the best Poster/video addressing the impact of Covid-19 on the environments. The names of the winners were announced on the same day.

A plantation drive was performed in the university premises by planting some Ghaf tree saplings which was sponsored by Barari Natural Resources, where Prof. Ghaleb El Refae, AAU President and some faculty members participated in the drive, taking into account all precautionary measures related to COVID19 pandemic.

Prof. Ghaleb El Refae, affirmed the commitment of Al Ain University to environmental and nature conservation with all efficiency and effectiveness, regardless of any challenges, including those related to the Corona virus pandemic. Whereas, the university’s interest in the environment and its related solicit comes from its keenness to preserve the environment and work to prepare generations that are aware of environmental problems to address them and find appropriate solutions.

Dr. Zafar Hussain, stressed on the importance of the environment in business education as it is a part of social responsibility. He also emphasized the college’s keenness to promote and develop innovative ideas in the field of preserving the environment.

It is worth to mention that, the AAU is also a part of a Sustainable Campus initiative under the supervision of the Abu Dhabi Environmental Agency and was ranked high in 2020 UI Green Metric World University Ranking.
