Civil engineering students achieve advanced positions in the ASCE competition

  • Posted on:May 07, 2024

In a remarkable demonstration of innovation and engineering prowess, Civil Engineering students from Al Ain University (Abu Dhabi Campus) achieved notable success at The Annual Low Cement Concrete Competition hosted by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student chapter at the American University of Sharjah (AUS).

This competition challenges participants to design and test sustainable low cement concrete mixes, emphasizing environmental responsibility and structural integrity. This year, AAU's Civil Engineering Program made its debut appearance, adding a fresh dynamic to the competition's landscape. Despite being newcomers, two teams from AAU secured impressive victories, earning second and third places with a remarkably close margin.

Dr. Omar Najm, a Civil Engineering faculty member, supervised the winning teams, offering guidance and support throughout the competition. The second-place team from AAU's Al Ain Campus included Mohammad Al Jaberi, Alaa Saeed, and Amjad Kamel. The third-place team from AAU's Abu Dhabi Campus comprised Mowafak Alkhatib, Hussam Al Enezi, and Zaid Al Takreeti. Their outstanding performance highlights the collaborative spirit and commitment to excellence inherent in AAU's Civil Engineering Program.

Prof. Abdulla Sharo, Program Director of the Civil Engineering Program in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, expressed immense pride in the students' achievements. He emphasized that their dedication and innovative spirit reflect the high caliber of talent nurtured within the program. He added: "As AAU's Civil Engineering Program continues to grow, the university remains committed to providing students with experiential learning and professional development opportunities. This ensures they are well-prepared to meet the evolving challenges of the engineering landscape".
