Dr. Noor Eldeen Atatreh, AAU Chancellor, greeted Mr. Hamad Hazza Al Darmaki, Chairman of the Association for the Deaf

Dr. Noor Eldeen Atatreh, AAU Chancellor, greeted Mr. Hamad Hazza Al Darmaki, Chairman of the Association for the Deaf, and his entourage in the presence of the sign language interpreter. They discussed issues related to deaf people within the country and ways of cooperation between the university and the association.

Mr. Hamad Al Darmaki presented the major problems faced by the deaf in continuing university education, and that many youths in such cases get better overseas study opportunities without encountering obstacles in education. However,  deaf women who wish to continue their higher education cannot travel abroad as a youngster due to the country’s customs and traditions. Therefore, Mr. Al Darmaki expressed his hope that the university allocates partitions or special curricula for deaf people to complete their studies.

In addition to Dr. Atatra’s warm, welcoming hospitality, he stressed that Al Ain University is based on the guidance and wise leadership represented by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. He also stressed on the support of people with special needs by reintegrating them into society in order to overcome all the difficulties they have by presenting the College of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, which has recently launched three specialties and among them is the Bachelor of Education in Special Education which is instructed in the Arabic Language. This specialty is programmed to understand the needs of disabled people, especially the deaf, and to overcome all the obstacles to complete their university studies with ease.
