Robot Invention for the Blind by the Engineering Scholars

Robot Invention for the Blind by the Engineering ScholarsA couple of scholars from the College of Engineering and IT at Al Ain University invented a vocal control robot to facilitate the blind multitude, which befall this project is the first of its sort in the nation. The revelation of the project occurred during the students ' participation in the  "Student Laboratory" Contest, which commenced with the start of GITEX 2014, one of the most important technical fairs worldwide. The invention was selected among the top ten projects in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, where the ten projects will be evaluated before the jury members who will choose the best four projects.

The task is a robot functioning through voice instructions to assist the blind, as easily as to control all home systems, such as electric lights, HVAC and security organization. It likewise assists the blind to move from room to room with a 360-degree surveillance camera to cover the position of the blind users to access them from anywhere instantly. The user will be able to control it even though it was outside the home by a normal call or VoIP, and will, sequentially, be capable of taking over.

Dr. Nazeeh Khadaj Mallat, Head of Communications Engineering and Computer Engineering and Network of the College of Engineering, is very proud that the students had managed to arrive at the final stage in the global competition and winning the fourth spot in the contest. He too marked that the College of Engineering and IT at AAU works so diligently to give opportunity to a larger number of students to take office and engage in such bodily functions that grant them more visibility and greater expertise as well as credibility.
