Workshop on Palm Pests Control at Al Ain University

 Workshop on ‘Palm Pests Control’ at  Al Ain University

In collaboration with the western sector of Al Ain Municipality, the Deanship of the Students Affairs at Al Ain University, based in Al Ain, organized a workshop to raise public awareness on palm pests and ways to eliminate them. The workshop was presented by the engineer, Ayub Hasan Al Ghaferi, Head of the Pest Control  Department, and the engineer, Salem Al Amri,  Garden Projects Coordinator, in the presence of some academic and administrative members of the university and a number of students.

The core of the workshop was about a dangerous pest, known as the weevil. The engineers provided a detailed explanation about this kind of pest supported by how it scatters, the symptoms of an infected palm and the most important ways to combat this scourge. The engineers also presented several recommendations to be taken into account when treating infected palms.

Engineer Ayub has highlighted on the devastating economic and environmental impacts caused by these lesions, and also drew the attention that  Al Ain Municipality has spotted huge budget to combat these scourges and has called on the public to cooperate with the municipality by reporting of any infected palm, whether in houses or farms.

At the end of the workshop, many students and faculty members expressed their queries and the speakers emphasized on the importance of community participation in the fight against these scourges.
