Quality Assurance Department organized a workshop about University Rankings

The Quality Assurance and Institutional Research Center, QAIRC, Al Ain Campus, organized two days’ workshops, entitled “QS University Ranking System (World, by Region, by Subject) Methodologies”, in Abu Dhabi Campus and Al Ain Campus. Managed and supervised by Dr. Nazih Khaddaj Mallat (Director, QAIRC), were attended by AAU deans, deputy deans, centers’ managers and the academic and administrative staffs.
The workshops were presented by “Mr. Ashwin Fernandes” (Regional Director – Middle East, North Africa & South Asia, QS Intelligence Unit, UK), who works closely with universities in the region in order to understand their current and future plans and help them optimize their resources. Mr. Fernandes covered all detailed reviews of QS World, Arab and Subject Ranking methodologies. He also delivered information on data submission process and guidelines, and provided an analysis on the performance of the institution and gave case studies and strategies on how to excel and do better. The speaker did also explain to the attendees on how to internationalize themselves and create a global brand for their institution.
In the end, Mr. Fernandes was honored, for his great efforts, by Prof. Ghaleb El Refae, AAU President, and Dr. Khaddaj Mallat, who stated that these workshops helped the AAU academic and administrative members to know what’s needed to improve the institution ranking, and stressed that AAU will continue to strive for excellence in its academic programs, research, training, and learning.
QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings, which evaluates universities based on ten indicators, such as; Academic Reputation, Employer reputation, Faculty/Student ratio, International Research Network, Web Impact, Proportion of staff with a PhD, Proportion of International Faculty and Proportion of International students.
