AAU’s professors presented a variety of research presentations discussing environmental issues, and the university also participated in the accompanying exhibition, showcasing its community initiatives in climate, environmental sustainability, and environmental education.

AAU concludes the Year of Sustainability events with a beach cleaning initiative
Al Ain University concluded its series of events for the Sustainability Year 2023 with a beach cleaning initiative under the slogan "Together for Our Sustainability." The initiative was organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs (Abu Dhabi Campus) in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, and it involved the participation of a group of volunteer students. The volunteers undertook the cleaning of the public beach at Al Bateen by collecting litter on the ground and categorizing it into paper, plastic, cans, and other materials.
This initiative aims to promote positive awareness about environmental protection from pollution and contribute to supporting the UAE's National Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050. In addition, it encourages student volunteering and contributes to preserving the environment while building sustainable local cities and communities.
The Deanship of Student Affairs participates in a Cleaning Campaign in Al Ain
The Deanship of Student Affairs at Al Ain University/ Al Ain Campus participated in a cleaning campaign in Al Ain organized by the Friends of the Environment Association in Al Nabagh City, titled "Sustainability - Environmentally Friendly Energy."
A number of students and faculty members volunteered for this campaign with the aim of educating university students about the importance of the environment and preserving it. Each volunteer was provided with complete cleaning tools, including bags for collecting waste, gloves, sticks, and sunglasses. They were also given comprehensive guidance and instructions regarding the campaign and waste collection.
The goal of the campaign was to promote social responsibility and volunteer work, increase environmental awareness, encourage positive behavior towards preserving the environment, and foster cooperation between partners to maintain a clean and civilized appearance of the emirate.
College of Engineering Organizes a Virtual Webinar on “Artificial Intelligence -Assisted Engineering”
The College of Engineering/ Abu Dhabi Campus recently held a virtual webinar titled "Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Engineering and Economy-Wide Planning of Large River Basins in a Changing Climate." The webinar was led by Dr. Mohammed Basheer, a Research Fellow at the Humboldt University of Berlin, and moderated by Dr. Omayma Motaleb Mukhtar, the Program Director of Civil Engineering.
The webinar covered the development of a simulation model to design efficient economic and engineering interventions using artificial intelligence techniques to enhance resilience and minimize costs within integrated water-energy-economy-hydrology-climate system models. The discussion emphasized the current challenges facing sustainable development goals such as Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent Work & Economic Growth, and Climate Action.
The event drew a diverse audience, including faculty, students, staff, and professionals from municipalities, universities, and industries both within the UAE and abroad.
An Entertainment trip to Al Wathba Lake Camp
Al Ain University (Abu Dhabi Campus) recently organized a trip to Al Wathba Lake Camp with the participation of over 60 students, under the supervision of the Deanship of Student Affairs and in collaboration with the Administrative Unit.
The camp, which is one of the newest in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, features volleyball courts, ropes, air skating, a lake, facilities, and a diverse range of birds.
This trip was organized as part of the Deanship of Student Affairs' commitment to encouraging students to engage in various extracurricular activities that enrich their university experience in. It also helped to foster strong relationships among students from different disciplines.

AAU at "Sustainability, Water Governance & Policy" Session
The AAU Deanship of Student Affairs in Abu Dhabi campus participated in the ‘Hiwar’ session entitled “Sustainability, Water Governance & Policy” organized by the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group. Experts and professionals in the field of water and sustainability were present at the session which focused on water governance and sustainability policies and provided a platform for knowledge sharing of key issues.
The session also shed light on a number of relevant matters including the Abu Dhabi water regulations and monitoring, the importance of behavior change and awareness to support the delivery of the Emirate's water strategy, active stakeholder participation, and providing essential data necessary in the decision making process with regard to the sustainable management of water resources in the region.
"Sustainable Universities Initiative" at Al Ain University
The College of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences at Al Ain University, Al Ain campus, hosted Ms. Amani Bin Humaid, Ms. Aisha Al Mazroui, Coordinators of the Sustainable Universities Initiative at Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi, and Mr. Ahmad Al Rmaithi, Representative of Borouge, to present an awareness lecture on sustainable universities initiative implemented by the EAD in cooperation with Borouge, in the presence of the faculty members and students.
This initiative aims to increase sustainable practices in Abu Dhabi's universities through a range of elements, first; Green audit, includes five species land, climate change, biodiversity, water and waste. The agency provides intensive training for university students by forming teams of interdisciplinary students. Second: Sustainability Measures Project (SAP): the agency establishes a student club at each university to undertake an environmental project that benefits the community. Third: The Green Youth Council: Students from different universities and scientific disciplines meet periodically to discuss ideas for building sustainable communities. The Council is recognized by various international organizations, including the World Summit in Japan, a forum where youth can discuss innovative ideas and projects that can promote sustainable societies for our future generations.
The aim of this lecture is to contribute positively in developing a sustainable environment and climate change issues which attract the attention of all countries, including the United Arab Emirates.
In addition, Al Ain University is keen to strengthen partnership with government, private and environmental institutions to raise environmental awareness and sustainable development.
